“Traveling Feet, Toes in the Sand, Flip Flops in Hand; Traveling Feet, Freezing Toes Ache, Catch a Snowflake; Traveling Feet, Scorching Sun, or Glistening Snow; Traveling Feet Don’t Think, Just Go.” ~ Teige Morrell

Our feet have lead us to the scorching sun of Adelaide, and I sit here writing this post in the safety of the “air con” (common Australian slang), yet still feeling the heat’s effect. The temperature has broken the 1939 record here for hottest day ever at 46.6’C (115.88’F!!!). That’s a personal record for me as well. I think 109’F is the highest temperature I’ve ever experienced; not 115!

It was 43’C the other day and David and I were on our way to basketball practice, he grabbed the steering wheel and quickly pulled his hands back; it was just too hot. He asked me if there was anything he could use as a glove for protection. All I had in my bag were my knee pads, but one of those turned out to be the perfect oven mitt!

After describing that experience to one of our Australian friends, she told us about a list titled “You Know it’s Hot in Australia When…”, so I looked it up and enjoyed the list’s accuracy so much I decided I’d write a blog about it and share our Australian heat experience with you. Here are twelve of my favorites from the list:

So there you have it, and wherever in the world you are, I bid you make the most of the weather you’re given; or use your traveling feet and just go… to the heat or the snow; to wherever you long to be.

After a few minutes outside, Lexi, pants, relieved to be enjoying the air con on the hot Australian Summer day.
